Napoleon Sarony, NYC, circa 1870-1875
| William Cullen Bryant was a well-known poet and writer in the early- to mid-1800s. He was born and raised in rural Massachusetts. After realizing that a career in poetry was a practical impossibility, he undertook a long and successful career in magazine publishing. First, as an editor at the New York Review and Atheneum Magazine and then most significantly as the editor-in-chief at the Evening Post. His editorials for the Evening Post helped make it one of the most respected newspapers in the country. | ![]() |
