Original Black & White Press Photograph: George Eastman unveils color movie technology
July, 1928 - Eastman Residence - Rochester, New York

This is an original press photograph taken by an unidentified photographer
for the Atlantic & Pacific News Bureau, dated 7/28/30 on the reverse.

From left to right in the photo:

Adolph S. Ochs
George Eastman
Thomas Alva Edison
General John J. Pershing
Sir James Irvine

Adolph Ochs was a leading publisher of the time and would no doubt be interested in publishing this breakthrough in his newspapers; Edison and Eastman had a long history of cooperation in the development of cine film; and Sir James Irvine of England is listed in the photograph's credits as being an international authority on chemistry.

The puzzle in this photograph is General Pershing. What was his connection with this photographic pinnacle, or was he 'just in the neighborhood'? Mr. Eastman routinely had notable celebrities, inventors, business magnates, and military figures to his house for social visits, but perhaps General Pershing was present to evaluate the new film for possible military use?
